![]() Best Multiplatform Game This year, more games than ever before were brought to multiple platforms. On most occasions, these cross-platform ports arrived months after the release of the original versions, and technical issues would often crop up in translation. Perhaps that's not surprising, as it takes a real effort for a developer-publisher duo to produce a multiplatform game that takes full advantage of each respective platform's technical strengths and then release it simultaneously on all fronts. This award goes to the game that managed to excel in this respect while simply being an outstanding game on its own merits. Here is the winner of our Best Multiplatform Game award:

Hitman 2: Silent Assassin was released at about the same time for the PC, Xbox, and PlayStation 2, but if you saw any one version of the game, you'd swear that this stylish, stealthy action game must have been made exclusively for that one platform. At any rate, the developers at IO Interactive clearly put a lot of time and effort into optimizing Hitman 2 for every system, and they have proven with this game that truly great titles transcend their platforms. So, is Hitman 2 a PC game or a console game? Who cares? It's a remarkable, unusual action game that's one of a kind on any of the three platforms. While a number of other great multiplatform games were released this year, we chose Hitman 2 for this award due to its success on both the PC and console sides of the fence. In the future, we'd love to see more console games cross over to the PC side so effectively, and vice versa.
