![]() Dubious Honors: Worst Loading Times on PlayStation 2 We at GameSpot long for the day when loading times in games are a thing of a past. Loading times interrupt the pacing of a game, forcing the player to sit idly by and wait for the action to begin, rather than spend that same precious time actually playing. In the most disappointing of cases, sometimes an otherwise great game can really be compromised due to excessive loading times. One such game was released this year, and we figured it was deserving of an award of some sort:

Hopefully we'll eventually reach a point where mid-game load times are a thing of the past, but until then, we'll have to live with games like Stuntman.Stuntman is a game designed entirely around the concept of trial and error. You drive your stunt vehicle for a few seconds, mess up, and then retry--but since you know what's coming this time, you'll get a little bit further before having to restart yet again. This goes on and on until you've memorized the entire level, at which point you should be able to complete it. This is all fine and good, except for the part where each retry is accompanied by a frustratingly long load time. Stuntman's a really impressive game in a lot of ways, but sitting through the lengthy load times exaggerates the game's repetitive nature, potentially turning a good game into a tedious one in a hurry.
