![]() Best Game No One Played on PlayStation 2 The game industry is extremely competitive--sometimes being good isn't enough to propel a game to commercial success. In spite of their great qualities--and in spite of critical acclaim--certain games fail to draw the kind of public attention they seem to deserve. The cause of this can be bad marketing, bad timing, an overly ambitious design, or something else. Here is the Best Game No One Played on PlayStation 2:
Publisher: Koei Developer: Koei Check latest prices »
The PlayStation 2 had such an incredibly full lineup of games this year that, unavoidably, some extremely good ones missed out on a lot of well-deserved attention. We felt the most notable of these was Koei's Dynasty Tactics, a great and original strategy game that seems to prove that strategy games still don't generally appeal to console audiences. It's true that the ancient Chinese setting of Dynasty Tactics isn't exactly accessible for everybody, but even still, the intriguing gameplay and unique mechanics of Dynasty Tactics are the sort of thing that could easily have transcended the source material. At any rate, Dynasty Tactics is an unusually good game that fills a real void in the PlayStation 2's library, yet it appeared quietly on the shelves and slipped through the cracks unnoticed by most gamers. Venerable publisher Koei isn't exactly known for publishing blockbuster hits, yet this game in particular among its lineup really deserved more recognition. So, consider this a public service announcement: If you're interested in games that provide a really satisfying challenge, give Dynasty Tactics a go.
