From gameplay to graphics, Rallisport Challenge excels on so many levels, which makes it an easy pick for Best Driving Game on Xbox for 2002. The gameplay requires precise braking and speed management to stay competitive in races, as well as a keen awareness of how the different surfaces (such as tarmac, gravel, and mud) will interact with the tire compound and the overall performance of your car, so the game is an accurate representation of the sport of rally racing in those respects. But in order to make the game more appealing to a general audience, the sense of speed has also been somewhat exaggerated to give Rallisport Challenge a much faster feel than what's found in most rally games.

Perhaps the most impressive aspect of Rallisport Challenge is the sheer amount of content in the game. There are 41 tracks spread out across 12 different environments, which are also divided up by different rally types. There's even a career mode where you can participate in 19 racing events, which have varying degrees of difficulty. Depending on how you perform in these events, you'll receive bonus points that can be used to unlock additional events in the career mode.

It's worth your time to go through the entire game just to see all of the excellent environments and car models, as Rallisport Challenge is one of the best-looking driving games to date. The game sports a number of incredibly realistic graphical effects ranging from environmental mapping on the cars to slight traces of bump mapping in the terrain. Rallisport Challenge simply looks great and plays just as well.
