Best Game No One Played on Xbox

The game industry is extremely competitive--sometimes it's not enough for a game to be good in order for it to be a commercial success. In spite of their great qualities--and in spite of critical acclaim--each year, certain games fail to draw the kind of public attention they seem to deserve. The cause of this can be bad marketing, bad timing, an overly ambitious design, or something else. Here is the Best Game No One Played on Xbox:

Buffy the Vampire Slayer

Publisher: Electronic Arts

While all of the nominees for this year's award for Best Game No One Played on Xbox are certainly notable, Buffy the Vampire Slayer stands out from the pack. You wouldn't expect a game based on a TV show to be any good, but Buffy the Vampire Slayer is a terrific action game that features a unique blend of fighting-game-styled 3D combat, puzzle solving, and a terrific storyline that's incredibly faithful to the Buffy the Vampire television show that inspired it.

The game also didn't sell well at all, which is really a shame, since Buffy the Vampire Slayer has everything going for it. The game's visuals are some of the best of any action game for the Xbox, thanks to incredibly detailed character models that look just like the actual actors and actresses who portray them on television. And the characters are not only visually authentic, but, for the most part, also sound just like their cinematic counterparts.

For all these reasons, Buffy deserved better. Even if you've never seen an episode of the show, and certainly if you have, then you'd more than likely find a lot to enjoy in this game.

Other Nominees:

Deathrow
JSRF - Jet Set Radio Future
Sega Soccer Slam
Steel Battalion
