Best Adventure Game, Nominees

The adventure genre continued to lie dormant this year. Traditional adventure games have become rather scarce; for one reason or another, the story-driven puzzle-solving gameplay typical of the hundreds of adventure games throughout much of the '80s and '90s just isn't as popular as it used to be. Fortunately, adventure gamers did have several very solid games to choose from this year, including the following five nominees for GameSpot's Best Adventure Game award for 2000.

The first game in the trilogy based on the memorable 1999 horror film was certainly the best. Though the game had little to do with the specific events of the movie and instead relied on the movie's mythology, the game successfully blended the Blair Witch legend with the interesting premise behind the 1999 horror-themed game Nocturne.
