Blue Rogues

The opening chapter of the adventure introduces you to the main cast and sets the stage for the later events of the game. What begins as a simple raid changes into something far more serious, thanks to the presence of a reserved young lady who has caught the eye of the grand admiral of the Valuan armada. The simple battles here also provide an excellent means by which to get a handle on the various aspects of combat, such as spirit and the colors of magic.

Raid on the Cygnus

Items in this area: Sacri crystal x2, 50 gold, magic droplet

After the Star Wars-like opening sequence, you'll find yourself in control of the Blue Rogue Vyse and his partner Aika, as they storm the Valuan flagship Cynus. Fight the soldiers on the deck to get a feel for the battle system, and you'll automatically head below deck. There's a chest right in front of you filled with sacri crystals, which can heal 500 hit points damage in or out of combat. If you visit the menus, you'll also notice that Vyse knows a red magic attack spell, pyri, and Aika can cast sacri, which has the same effect as a sacri crystal.

From the starting room is a set of doors leading straight ahead; pass through the narrow hall into the second area of the ship, where admiral Alfonso sends more guards after you. Climb the stairs and listen to Alfonso's taunts, then double back to find another treasure chest. If you follow Alfonso, you'll come to a locked door through which the foppish villain taunts you. The spinning anchor icon in the same room is a save point - save your game there and take the side passage to the right of the locked door.

Outside the ship, climb the ladder down the hull and enter the door on the lower level. Inside, you'll witness a craven act of treachery by Alfonso, but before you can administer justice, you must deal with his personal battle beast, Antonio.

Boss Battle: Antonio - 550 Hit Points

Antonio is powerful, but Vyse's cutlass fury skill will make short work of the battle beast.
If you're not careful, Antonio's attacks can catch you off guard and put you down for the count. If either Vyse or Aika run out of hit points, you're in trouble - you have no means by which to revive an unconscious character. The monster's basic attack strikes you for 60 to 70 hit points, but the real threat comes in the form of thunder of fury, a deadly lightning attack that strikes for 200 hit points or more. If one of your characters is hit with thunder of fury, use a sacri crystal to heal; don't use magic, as you need to save spirit points for Vyse to use cutlass fury. If you last long enough to save up seven spirit points, unleash Vyse's S-move to put a major dent in Antonio's life meter. And if you lose, don't despair - you can restart the battle from the beginning.

Alfonso escapes, but the girl he was trying to capture is left aboard the Cynus. Vyse and Aika return to their ship, the Albatross, to celebrate their victory and bring the strange girl back to health. Your victory rewards you with a moonstone, which you'll want to use to learn Aika's alpha storm as soon as possible.
