The Purple Moon

Vyse has come into his own as a captain and has even proved the world is round. More importantly, he has three of the all-important moon crystals in his possession. The next phase of the adventure will be to brave the purple moon's lands of ice, where a deserted city on the underside of the world houses the next crystal.

Return and Regroup

Travel to Crescent Island by traveling around the world - find a hole in the stone reef slightly to the south of Yafutoma and pass into Ixa'takan airspace. When you arrive at Crescent Isle, you will have confirmed that the world is a sphere (or something like that, since the world wraps to both the north/south and east/west edges). Give the book on polarity to Brabham, who nearly has a heart attack from excitement; he and Izmael join your crew as full members. All your crew members set up various areas on the island: Khazim founds a ship weapons shop, Osman sells magic spell boxes, and Polly and Urala open a cafe. Many of the elements of the island can be upgraded, which is a wise investment.

Osman's shop can be expanded for 2,000 gold. Kirala and Izmael will upgrade the living quarters for 2,000 gold, the tavern for 1,500 gold, and Kalifa's tent for 1,000 gold.

There's a cham by the island's flag, and you can change the flag design to one of the other two options you were given earlier whenever you want. Belle, a bouncy young lady under Clara's tutelage, joins as a gunner when you speak to her in the port and will run the shop there with her two friends. When you've seen all the island has to offer, take the elevator up the cliff face to the meeting room, where the party decides to head toward the land of ice in search of the purple moon crystal.

Ice Country

Items in this area: Icesplitter, winter orb, frostblade, moonberry, purple moon crystal

To reach the continent of the purple moon, you must travel far to the south. The crystal is located in a lost city beneath the ice, the ruins of ice; to find it, you must look down in hopes of spotting the city beneath the surface of the ice. On the map, the ruins are located in the small cul-de-sac in the absolute north, blocked by fierce wind rifts to the south and east. Cruise south over the ice until you wrap into the northern map and look up in the sky to find the aurora; once you make the aurora discovery, you're very close to the ruins of ice. Tap the D-pad on the controller to look down over the ice for best effect; the ruins are a circle in the ice and should be easy to spot from above. Land when you see them to automatically smash the ice and enter the ruins.

There's a cham immediately to the left of the entrance, so don't miss it. Inside the ruins themselves, you will be confronted by three riddlesome stones that will open doors based on your answers. By making the correct choices, your swashbuckler rating goes up, so there's no reason not to get them right.

Swashbuckler opportunity: Tell the first guardian stone "Power of ice."

Swashbuckler opportunity: Tell the second guardian stone "Two."

Swashbuckler opportunity: Tell the final guardian stone "Will and spirit."

Enter the lost city of Glacia and begin exploring. Take the lift down and follow the path until you reach the T-junction. To the right is a ramp leading to a new boomerang for Aika, and the left path contains a chest guarded by your old pal Zivilyn Bane. Continue past this confrontation to the next platform and another junction. Straight ahead is a chest, to the right is a second cham, and the left path harbors a save point and the powerful guardian of the purple moon crystal, Veltarn.

Boss Battle: Veltarn - 10,500 Hit Points

Veltarn inflicts punishment with two main attacks: avalauncher, that hits all characters in a straight line for high hit points, and death laser, a fairly weak attack that can cause instant death. Protect your characters by equipping items like thermo rings and Silvite rings and unleash a can of booty-kicking on the boss. Whenever a character falls to a death laser, use a riselem crystal to revive that ally (don't risk the uncertainty of the 50/50 risan crystals). Red magic attacks are surprisingly weak against Veltarn, so place your trust in steel and make use of Enrique and Vyse's inexpensive S-moves.

Don't miss the chest to the right of the main doors here before you enter the sanctum of the purple crystal. Inside, you'll have a surprising encounter and discover the unexpected true nature of the purple gigas. After Plergoth dies, take the crystal and return to Crescent Isle.

Swashbuckler opportunity: Let Plergoth's companion go deal with his thoughts privately.
