Chapter II: The Abilities

More important than the personality of each character is how you are able to use him or her. The following section will provide you with a breakdown of each ability that each individual character is capable of learning, as well as three tables that show what each generic ability does, who can use each one, and from what you may learn each generic ability. With this information, you should be able to plan out a very skilled party fairly easily.

Amarant
For the most part Amarant's abilities tend to not be the most useful abilities with one exception. During a battle in Alexandria later on in the game you will need to use his Spare Change ability to weaken an enemy, but otherwise they tend to do very little for you. While he is capable of healing your characters, this role is better served by one of your white mages instead.

Description

Aura

This ability casts auto-life and regen on one party member.

Chakra

Fully restores one party member's HP and MP.

Countdown

Same effect as doom; limits the time an enemy has to live.

Curse

Renders the target weak against a random element.

Demi Shock

Causes a certain amount of damage based on the enemy's HP.

No Mercy

Inflicts non-elemental damage upon all enemies.

Revive

Recovers one party member from KO.

Spare Change

Uses gil to cause non-elemental damage to one enemy.



Dagger

How useful Dagger's abilities are to you depends greatly upon whether you'd rather have a strong healer of an adequate healer who can do a lot of damage. If you prefer the strong healer take Eiko instead, but if you want a summoner who can heal and cause quite a bit of damage with her summons, take Dagger.

Inflicts shadow damage upon all enemies.

Atomos

Inflicts a certain percentage of damage upon all enemies.

Bahamut

Inflicts non-elemental damage upon all enemies.

Ifrit

Inflicts fire damage upon all enemies.

Leviathan

Inflicts water damage upon all enemies.

Odin

Inflicts KO upon all enemies.

Ramuh

Inflicts thunder damage upon all enemies.

Shiva

Inflicts ice damage upon all enemies.



White Magic

Spell

Effect

Berserk

Strengthens one party member and causes him or her to attack uncontrollably.

Blind

Inflicts darkness upon an enemy.

Confuse

Causes one or more targets to lose control.

Cura

Restores over 1500 HP to one or more targets.

Curaga

Restores over 4000 HP to one or more targets.

Cure

Restores over 300 HP to one or more targets.

Float

Levitates target, causing him or her to be unaffected by earth damage.

Life

Revives a character and restores a small amount of HP.

Mini

Shrinks enemy, lowering its offensive and defensive power.

Panacea

Remedies venom and poison ailments.

Protect

Protects target from a certain percentage of physical damage.

Reflect

Causes magic targeted at character with Reflect cast upon them to bounce back at the other party.

Scan

Displays information about an enemy.

Shell

Protects target from a certain percentage of magical damage.

Silence

Prevents one or more targets from casting spells.

Stona

Remedies petrify and gradual petrify ailments.
