Don't believe the hype, is the perfect Classification for Guild Wars 2. New Players be very wary of the misguided hype.

First off, time spent playing Guild Wars 2 is over 1500 hours not to mention, closed betas time spent more than 30 hours so that gives me more than enough expertise to review this game. I've been holding off reviewing because like all MMo's at launch, they have problems and honestly, they should never be reviewed properly until they at least pass the 6 week mark.

Hackers // Botters // Exploits

Basically, ruining the game and Anet so far hasn't done anything to fix the problem, every zone on every server often has large groups of bots running around on a daily basis - whilst gold spam has certainly been reduced in the past few weeks, bots are still running rampant.

Exploits and Hacks ruin the PvP experience completely, especially vulnerable is WvWvW combat where just one hacker can turn the tide of battle instantly, just google Guild Wars 2 WvW hacks and you'll be amazed at what is happening right now, and again - little has been done to fix these problems.

PvE

This is honestly, where the bread and butter is. Dynamic events, Skill challenges, Jumping Puzzles and Points of Interest all keep the player very busy as they travel throughout the world - provided they are not bugged/broken which is a very common issue, most have still not been fixed or regular get stuck, some completely preventing the player from finishing the zone. Basically, this is the only area where the game shines even though, the game is still the obvious diamond in the rough.

Crafting is surprisingly fun considering, and is actually rewarding in terms of experience earned, it is quite possible to gain many levels from sheer crafting alone.

Jumping Puzzles suffers from bad camera issues, and severe frustration in some of the harder puzzles which require Super Mario style jumping with pixel perfect jumping, not really a problem is some of them didn't have issues making it twice as difficult than they really needed to be.

Many of the achievements are stupid, requires very significant grinding or worst. One example of this is the infamous 'Been There, Done that' Title which is a PvE title that requires the player to venture into WvWvW PvP areas which are often heavily contested and/or even guarded with gank squads, quite often the player working towards this title has to transfer servers many times to finish this achievement - which to me, is a stupid idea and Anet refuse to acknowledge that this is even a problem, even deleted significant amounts of topics on the forums related to this - meaning, Anet can't really be trusted.

Gear/Equipment

Anet wanted a more skill based game, one of the ways to attempt this was to make the items/gear pretty much the same in terms of stats - meaning the most difficulty gear to acquire in the game, has pretty much similar stats - it just has better cosmetic looks. Clear example of this are the legendary weapons, in terms of stats/power they are exactly the same as any regular exotic weapons, they just look 'better' so all the people from Warcraft hoping for overpowered weapons/gear shouldn't bother at all.

Dungeons

Honestly, they are terrible terrible terrible - the loot system in dungeons is basically a tragic affair, you spend 5 minutes downing a boss and your rewards are the equivalent of vendor trash blues - Even the exploration mode difficulty doesn't reward the player until the full completion of the dungeon which means if you get stuck/lose people/Disconnect/Maintenance etc, then you don't get any tokens to spend on exotic gear, not that the gear is any better than other in terms of stats..

WvWvW (PvP)

This is one of the weaker aspects of the game if you ask me. Since launch many issues have been identifed and even acknowledged by Anet however, the have yet discovered ways to fix the problems. One is the server population, obviously High Population Servers vs Low Population servers will obviously have a one-sided outcome. Another problem which I mentioned are hackers stealing orbs // taking keeps by using various well known hacks/exploits, the forums constantly have flamewars regarding cheating, the evidence is pretty obvious really (check youtube).

Another problem in WvWvW is nightcapping, which essentially means that particular server has 24/7 guilds attacking/defending - which means if your server does not then you lose, to put it bluntly. This has lead to many people using server transfers which has made server populations even more unbalanced. Anet doesn't seem to think this is a problem, however many in the community think otherwise.

In closing, Guilds Wars 2 does have its good points, and rather obvious bad ones - The question is if your planning to buy this game, what do you want to do? What do you hope to get out of it? Everything I posted in this review is 100% accurate as of posting time, obviously as far as MMo's go, Guild Wars 2 is still new and has time to grow and fix many of the significant problems. However in saying that, Arenanet//NCsoft has a history, the original Guild Wars has hacker problems too, many problems that was never fixed so the question begs, Will Anet fix the problems with Guild War 2 or blindly ignore them hoping to rake in the profits and/or shun people who actually have valid concerns?

Since the Halloween patches, players have lost so many players and have made highly questionable choices. The two latest issues are with condition damage and guild missions. Condition damage is a huge issue, since if your in a party with other CD builds, they overwrite each other and don't stack, meaning your losing vast amounts of DPS, Arenanets explanation is because it takes up too much bandwidth on their servers so it was restricted so much - this isn't a restriction at all, it effectively prevents all condition builds from being viable and is one of the reasons why certain classes (like Engineer) suck in PvE.

The new Guild Missions patch is effectively destroying casual and small guilds, it not only makes no sense that this PvE content has to be researched in a WvWvW research line either, not to mention requires significant research and influence - The forums are already up in flames because of these changes, which quite rightly so - will destroy many small, casual and even some medium sized guilds as players will jump ship into the super large guilds in order to do this content.
