Honestly this game is just... boring to me.

User Rating: 5 | ICO (Classics HD) PS3

ICO was released in 2001 for the PlayStation 2 and later re-released for the PS3 via the ICO/Shadow of the Colossus Collection. I played this game 2 years ago and... I didn't like it all that much.

You play as a boy named ICO who was put inside a coffin to be sacrificed. He later escapes after a tremor causes the coffin to open. Along the way, he meets a young girl called Yorda, who speaks a different language. As Ico, you have to guide her out of the castle to safety.

Ico can use a weapon to beat the show creatures that will try and kidnap Yorda. You will also have to solve puzzles so that the both of you can traverse the world. Honestly, the gameplay can mix from dull to somewhat frustrating at times. I'm personally not a fan of the whole escort missions business, but I don't think it's handled all that well here. Leaving Yorda for too long results in her getting kidnapped. With that and the relentless amount of enemies attacking can make for some annoying sections sometimes. Yorda also has limited movement, so you will have to make sure that you create pathways for her too. You do this for the whole game and I don't know I just cannot get down with that. Maybe playing other games with annoying escort sections (Resident Evil 4) are the reason for this.

The game does get a lot of praise and I can understand why people love ICO, but for me the overall package just doesn't interest me in the slightest. This is also a problem that I have with Shadow of the Colossus too. The games are just not my cup of tea. Boring gameplay complimented with a forgettable world/narrative makes ICO one of the most mediocre games I have played on PlayStation 3.
