The Halo Killer has returned. It's been 10 years since Killzone 2's release and still kicks ass. I got this when I was mad and 19 in 2014. First I was skeptical if it was a CoD clone then I actually played the game. It's a CoD clone alright. On STEROIDS!
STORY
The story is plain and simple yet so effective. You are a military grunt named Sev. Your mission is to go to Helghan and arrest Visari. You must fight your way through hoards of super human Helghasts with your buddies in arms Garza and some other dudes. This game though does not have the branching narrative of the first Killzone it still has a good one and doesn't waste time at all.
Visari is full of hate and wants you to die. A enemy I can identify with
GAMEPLAY
Killzone 2 has such intense gameplay. You have weighted weapons These aren't some floaty over powered hyper 14 year bull. Nope it's realistic and gritty gameplay. As realistic as a health regenerating human can get. You take cover behind things and shoot things with you heavy weaponry. You fight tooth to nail. You can shoot at the Helghasts who come in different enemy varieties. They all are smart unlike your AI buddies who will die. Which by the way you must tend to them but not too often. Even with it's cutscenes it's immersive and intense though.
If there was something that pissed me off about Killzone 2 is the forced Six Axis garbage. Sure you may think it's immersive but remember this. Even with it's cutscenes it's immersive and intense thought I have the cheapest MadCatz controller here. So yeah not so much.
The movement is also weighted and there are tons of explosions.
You can even pilot a mini mech with your bros.
There are 14 levels and they are all epic.
Tons of useless collectables to.
Multiplayer for KZ2 is down but back in the day it was fun. Now you can only play with bots.
GRAPHICS
Despite not being as good as it's 2005 trailer. Killzone 2 has some of the most amazing 3D graphics on the Playstation 3 I bet it can hardly handle it. You see explosions, character models and textures on them are detailed, not so much the enviroment but where all the visual love relies on is in the amazing volumetric explosions, particle effects, physics, and lighting effects that make Killzone 2 feel so cinematic and so lifelike that you probably won't need high poly worlds.
Also the art is stellar. It's like a mix between, Metal Gear Solid 4 Guns of the Patriots, Crysis, Ghost in the Shell, and Jihn Roh. It's very scifi and World War 2. Very gritty and bleak. There is so much film grain, lens flair, motion blur and anti aliasing it might give you a headache.
Overall a visual Splender 10/10
SOUND
Killzone's sound is incredibly loud and immersive. The sweeping score will amaze you and you'll feel tense every moment especially when you time you hear a grenade cook and explode.
OVERALL
Killzone 2 is an amazing feet in 7th gen gaming. I hope you guys can play it. I know I have.
