Great Game, too short

User Rating: 8 | Killzone 3 PS3
When Killzone 3 was first announced, it had a lot of hype to live up to after the fantasic Killzone 2. While Killzone 3 has some of the best gameplay moments of any game out there, Killzone 3 cancels most of them by doing things wrong. Killzone 3 is without a doubt a beautiful game. The level of graphics is amazing for games of this time. The level of detail is high and Menivronments feel alive and wonderful. The main characters are trapped on the planet with an unfocused story. Sev and Rico are facing a new threat leading the Helgast and must stop them from destroying the earth. But the story is not why people are playing the campaign. The gameplay is fast, fun, and easy to get into. You can now get up close to an enemy and deliever a brutal kill. These are gory and fun to execute. The shooting and controls are tight. You use cover and can lock onto enemies much better than the previous game. But with the gameplay being so good, there is not much content to play. Most of the levels are riddled with too many cutscenes and not enough gameplay. It almost feels rushed with a 5 to 6 hour campaign. And there no replay value, no collectables, or symbols to destory like the previous game which is a shame because the game is a lot of fun. Multiplayer offer more content for the game though. As you play, you earn skill points and spend them on class-specific and universal unlocks. However, the class and unlock system has seen some changes, forcing you to choose a class from the moment you jump into a match, and forgoing the leveling system that let you host and join servers limited to certain levels. This means you get the opportunity to play with some of the game's most interesting toys (sentry turrets, spawn grenades) early in your online career; the downside is that the sense of progression is less engaging than Killzone 2's. Regardless of how you feel about these changes, the classes are universally enjoyable. As an engineer, it's rewarding to get kills and assists when dropping a turret or two in a key location. As an infiltrator, there's nothing like speeding toward your target in disguise and then sinking a knife into him. Medics, marksmen, and tacticians all offer their own delights, so even if you think you'd rather play as one class, it's worth exploring all the options. Killzone 3 has great moments but I only wished that there was more of the game than what is offered. 8/10
