kingdom Hearts re:coded takes place after kingdom hearts 2 or maybe before? I don't know because this games story is so confusing. This game has you playing as data Sora. WHAT THE HECK?!?!?!? Well apparently Jiminy crickets's journal has become infected with glitches? I'm not sure how that is really possible. In the end it comes down to Sora's heartless from kingdom hearts 1 creating glitches in order to escape from the book?!?!?! If you can't tell this game's biggest problem is its campaign. You see the Square Enix thought it would be fun to make jiminy crickets journal have a connection to something called the book of prophecy. Which can create beings and worlds that have or have yet to exist. Now this is all well and good except that they don't explain this to you in the game. They expect you to play the 2.5 hd remix in order to see this one bonus cutscene that validates the existence of an entire game. That is not cool. I would still be scratching my head about this game if I hadn't looked up those bonus cutscenes from a completely different game.
Luckily where the story fails to live up the gameplay manages to salvage the game somewhat. You see this game was the next release for kingdom hearts after 358/2 days. Amazingly they learned from their mistakes with the previous game and fixed the gameplay so its just like Kh 2 mixed with some Birth by sleep. In addition to that the God awful panel system has been removed and basic enemies will finally take damage at more than a tick of damage per min.
Another thing that helps this game is that there is plenty of variety and lots of somewhat nostalgic moments. You see to clear worlds of glitches you have to find the main glitch enter it and defeat the boss. What keeps these encounter fresh is the mix of different genres here. One glitches section could be a 2d platform while another one could be a behind the back galago like thing. Finally what keeps this game fresh is the olympic coliseum. You see they turned the coliseum into a old style turn based RPG with kingdom hearts and its pretty cool to play through.
Earlier I mentioned somewhat nostalgic moments well this game story follows the story of kh 1 and chain of memories except that things are drastically different. Its as if someone wrote a kingdom hearts fan fiction and Square Enix was like okay we could use some money lets make a game out of that. Cause thats what this game really is its fan fiction.
For non kingdom hearts fans i would warn them to stay away. Even for kingdom hearts fans I would recommend that they play everything else in the series first before playing this.
