LittleBugPlanet 3

User Rating: 7 | LittleBigPlanet 3 (Day 1 Edition!) PS4

LittleBigPlanet a much loved innovative franchise, with a loyal legion of passionate fans enchanted by the charm and expansive creative possibilities of the series who awaited the release of latest installment with mounting excitement and anticipation.....then the launch arrived and the problems began.

The rush to publish the title in time to hit the black friday and following christmas sales window compromised the quality of the final product. The many game spoiling glitches and game breaking bugs has disenchanted, frustrated and enraged a loyal community of ardent fans. Even now two months after release the system crashes, dlc and profile error issues are numerous. The developers instead of showing due diligence in quality assurance went for some easy profits.

The new content and creative resources barely counter-balance a sloppily constructed, poorly made main story mode. What a waste of Hugh Lauries' considerable acting talent having to deliver a script so poor that it resembled an improvised junior school play. The new player controllable characters add extra variety but the extra layers now accessible to the creator/player have been in existence since LBP2.

Sumo Digital who took over the game from the award winning Media Molecule recruited creators from the LBP community to help develop the game but the selection was a flawed process as these weren't even the best creators on LBP just a select clique recruited in a closed myopic fashion....the resulting poorly designed product with levels that actually fall apart. The developers and Community management have tried to put a positive spin on the release ignoring the thousands of complaints online in forums or on their own occasional twitch Tv broadcast but the truth is their version has tarnished the Franchises lineage badly.

Hope does lie in the hands of the community whos endless creativity and positivity may even surmount this awful start by creating a whole universe of fun filled levels for all to play but even in that the deplorable community management try and direct the community output into a generic stereotype direction without encouraging real expansive open creativity, thus leaving the experience heading further into a permanent sterilised infantilism rather than allowing the experience to age and grow with it's fans.
