After playing Lost Planet 1 and Lost Planet 2 back to back, I don't understand the bad reviews for Lost Planet 2. I don't think it's so much worse than part 1, in fact, I prefer part 2. There are some control changes compared to 1 but you'll get used to those very easily and the controls by themselves are clear. The quick 180 degree turn can be quite useful and is or was innovative. The story is engaging (though it's not always clear that you change sides a few times) and it looks great. It's funny, I think I've played Diablo or God of War 3 too much, I almost can't get myself to step into the orange flows to gain thermal energy. They looks too much like lava LOL. I've got only two negative comments. I was disappointed with the final chapter and completing the game (on normal) only netted 20 % of the trophies, that seems a bit undervalued. Otherwise I quite like it and will certainly play it again at a different difficulty setting.
