Not the game it should have been.

When I first heard of this game I thought what every fan of AAA thought: this was going to be a fast paced high impact game of which the likes haven't been seen in the genre for ages. And like most fans I was disappointed.

Graphics: They're not the best but you could do much worst. Very polished visual wise and the characters costumes look absolutely fantastic.

Playability: This is were everything falls apart. The wrestlers move way to slow. When you Irish Whip someone it takes them about 5 seconds to get from one side of the ring to the other and thats with the fastest, the slowest doesn't even make it. The reversal system is way too easy to a point where a match is nothing but reversals and waiting for your opponent to slip up. Overall matches tend be either too short or too long which wouldn't be a problem if the move set wasn't so limited. Four moves per grapple which are Weak, Strong and Rear. Then of course theres Head, Side and Leg ground grapples, two Corner grapples, two standing Aerials and two down Aerials. Running moves never connect like they should and the strong attacks send your opponent flying out of the ring like a doll smacked by a wrecking ball. Not cool Slang, not cool.

Story: There are two stories: Technicos and Rudos. The Technico story follows you on the path to become the most honorable man in the company while the Rudos story follows you on the path to become the rudest of the rudos. Interviews from the wrestlers explain the rules and purpose of Lucha Libre while cutscenes show keypoints of the story. But most of the story will be found in the match selection screens. I really liked the almost mythical feel to the matches in this mode. They really did a great job on this part of the game.

Create a Wrestler: Simple and clean which is a nice change of pace from the SVR Series CAW. Infact the most of your time will most likely be spent on the Mask Editor. While the mask editor is fun and simple to use it doesn't go into as much detail as the ads said. Tights have presets of which the colors and texture can be changed. Same with Shirts. Boots, Kneepads, Elbowpads, Hats, Hair and everything else are suckish at best. There is no option for a bald character which is understandable considering the Lucha de Apuestas match and there are only four slots overall for wrestlers.

Overall: This would be an excellent game if the actual play wasn't so crappy. I hope that AAA finds a better Developer for their next entry if there will be one because Slag just did not get the job done. Alot of people claim this is better then Impact. They have never played Impact.
