The start of the Mario and Sonic's Olympic adventures!

User Rating: 7 | Mario & Sonic at the Olympic Games WII

Mario and Sonic at the Olympic Games is a crossover sports game for the Wii and DS, which has spanned numerous sequels, but has been criticized for motion controls, boring mini-games and why Nintendo and Sega are only doing Olympics and not something else. I am here to review the Wii version of this game.

The game is set in the Beijing Olympics and has various events for you to play, which include 400m, Archery, Trampoline and Rowing. There are also Dream Events, which are events that have a Mario and Sonic spin on them. In the Wii version, the Dream Events are Dream Race (Athletics), Dream Platform (Diving), Dream Table Tennis (Table Tennis) and Dream Fencing (Fencing). There are more in the DS version, which makes me disappointed that there isn't enough Dream Events in the Wii version. There are also mini-games in the Gallery section which you can play to unlock various Mario and Sonic music like Ground Theme from Super Mario Bros, Let the Speed Mend It (Secret Rings) and Green Hill (Sonic 1). What I like about the game is the Circuit mode, which has you going through various sets of events to unlock new circuits and events. It gets more challenging later because of the aggressive AI, but this is part of the fun. I also like the addition of Mario and Sonic music, the collectables, the multi-player, and the events.

The negatives would have to be the lack of content, the sometimes unresponsive motion controls and the very aggressive AI.

Otherwise, this is a good party game to pick up and play with your friends.
