Mario Kart 7 is fun, the 3d is very good, many characters to unlock and use, including your mii, the kart customization is a good sign of improvement and makes for more variety. However, for me the Wifi matches are about 90% of the game, and i have to say, online multiplayer is about 30% skill, 70% luck, because the items are completely unbalanced, with the blue shell coming at least 1-2 times per match usually at the last lap towards the finish line(which means you are usually inches away from the finish line when your hit, forcing you usually to last place), and the blue shell now hurts you long enough to send you from a huge lead all the way down to last place, which is incredibly annoying, especially if you're a competitive minded person, like myself.
It is fun without question, but can be extremely annoying at times, and the worst part, people barely play on the no item channels, so you have to live with the crazy items. But the game is definitely a game that every 3ds owner should get, considering it is fun, and everyone you meet with a 3ds probably owns this.
