fantastic Mix of mario kart and littlebigplanet!
The Good: extremely detailed customization allows anyone to make their dream car,character customization is more detailed than littlebig planet,sound tracks are funky,difficulty is perfect to incourage precision driving and tactics,attractive visuals,cutscenes give more character than mario cart,3 sets of objectives for every race keep you playing,making your own track is outstanding,multiplayer local and online is fun and easy.
The Bad: its to easy to end up outside the scenary after a failed jump,sometimes the enemies become very aggressive,sheilding doesent work,some speed alteration available but not enough,
Soon as the good points of this game are fairly self explanatory i'll start with the negative points.
Basically the new power up system involves getting an upgrade for your current powerup each time you drive into another powerup box,this is mostly a good system but it can mean that you stay first for 95% of the race and then in the last two corners you get bombarded and end up 5th.This can be quite fraustrating
You are given the option to shield attacks by holding circle and using your boost bar to power a ray deflector thingy however if the weapon fired at you is upgraded at all then your shield does nothing to stop you being blown sky high.
Apart from a few minor issues modnation racers is a fantastic game with fun kart racing and that LBP style charm mixed to make a very enjoyable racer.The main thing that sets this game apart from mario cart is the extremely expansive customsation of your car and character.Cars can be painted with various colours and patterns,covered in assorted stickers and designed with a large range of bodies, spoilers, engines ,seats,numberplates and much more.
Anyone who has played mario cart at all will know that there is no customisation what so ever so this is a great change to classic cart racing and modnation even has a minor performance modifiyer allowing a bias to accelaration or top speed,drift or grip but this is hardly a major feature.
The actual racing is much like mario cart bright,fun,exciting and almost as atmospheric but not quite,every race completed will see you unlock at least 3 new customisation parts and tokens can be collected in races to unlock additional parts in the lottery.
Most other elements of the game are just mario cart but despite all this mario cart style this game feels completely fresh
