ModNation Racers throws you in the shoes of Tag a kid with a creative flare who just joined the Modnation Racing Championship. The first thing you will notice about ModNation Racers is its great way of making you feel part of its main story. Yes ModNation Racers has a main story. A story mod for a kart racer came as a welcoming to me because out of it being rare for a game like this. The Main story mod ran about 7 hours for me, but there is much more you can collect in the main story so you will spend a lot of time with this game if you are one of those people who need to do every last thing. The main story would be much shorter for me if I didn't have to restart races every moment because you need to finsh in the top 3 spots. This is a kart racer that has a difficulty curve that you will notice after the 4th race. It took me about 10 restart to do one race. The Ai racers can be very punishing at times and unforgiving for poor kart racing. I was frustrated during that race, but after that race ended I was very happy that I got first place and all medals. At the end of almost every main story race you get a cut scene that has light humor and explains a bit of tags story. After the first few races in the story you will get thrown into Mod Spot. Mod Spot is the games main hub that lets you select what you want to do by driving around. The first thing I did when I was thrown into Mod Spot was go to the Creation Station. The station allows you to make 3 things. The first thing you can make is a driver (called mods in the game), the second thing is tracks, but the last thing is your kart. The Creation station is ModNation Racers highlight in my mind because as you beat races you unlock parts for cars and mod. These parts you unlock allow you to make whatever is in your wildest dreams. The Creator takes a bit to master but when you do you can start publishing your creations. If you have your ps3 hooked up to the Playstaion Network you can experience the share part of this game. Every time you make something in the Creation Station you can choose to publish it to the ModNation Racers community for everyone to admire and download. Every time you publish you get create xp and if others download your works you get even more xp.You can also download other people's things for you to use.The world of ModNation is competitive place for creators so take this in mind when you make something because if it is not top notch it will be over looked. Another part of ModNation Racers online features is multiplayer kart racing. When you want to play multiplayer online you have a choice between Xp race and xp series. The xp race is a onetime race where your standings from the last race do not carry. The xp series is a tournament of 5 races. I highly recommend xp series if you want to level up faster but the problem with xp series is that not many people do it so you will need to grab some buddies for fast leveling. I found that not that many people playing the xp series was a problem so I tended not to play online that much. Also there is no fast way for you to play your tracks with your friends and others fast. This Also dulled the online actions because the same 25 tracks became boring. The last thing about ModNation Racers community is that it is not full of people who are not bone heads on the mic. Most people you meet on ModNation Racers are very nice and are there to have a great time racing.A lot of people have been comparing this game to Mario kart but I think that this game is what Mario kart should have been. So, I give ModNation racers 7 out of 10 because of its great creator tools, strong story mode, and great community. The things that could have made this game a 10 out of 10 are Ai that doesn't punish you all the time, a system that makes it so if you mess up even the slightest you can still win the race, a better way to play on your tracks with others, and more people playing the xp series would be better. If you are looking for a fun racer to play with your friends and a new outlet for your creative side I recommend ModNation Racer, but this game isn't a must buy.
