Monster Hunter Freedom 2 brings more of the same, both good and bad.

Monster Hunter Freedom 2 is the sequel to the 2006 predeccesor. The game's premise is quite simple. You're a monster hunter of your own creation and you walk around in mountains, deserts and jungles hunting monsters. In many ways it's set up like a MMORPG. You can't beat the game, there's no real story to speak of and you keep getting quests and missions to beat.

As good as the premise might be, the execution is poor. The controls are clunky and inaccurate and the item creation leaves you searching in the dark. What little there is of music is superb, but that's just the problem: there's too little of it.

Overall this game is full of flaws. But that doesn't really mean anything. At least not to me. The gameplay is really what counts and on that point this game succedes big time. The missions are divided in three: The first type of quests are called Gathering quests. Those mainly have you search around the level for different items and ingredients that the villagers wants from you. The second type is called Slaying. Here your goal is to kill off a certain number of monsters of a certain race. And the third is called Hunting. These are definitely the hardest mission and your goal here is to defeat a certain boss, often a super powerful dragon. The mission structure isn't changed at all from the predeccesor, which really is okay, since you get more of the same. Overall, this is a good PSP title. With 200+ quests, tons of new (and old) armor and weapons, ambient music and excellent graphics, this makes a solid game. If you liked MHF1 and you want more of the same, then buy this game.
