Fantastic, but with a couple of gripes.

User Rating: 8 | Mortal Kombat X XONE

Fantastic visuals, smooth gameplay and tons of different ways to play the game (single player, two player, online, faction wars, living towers challenges, etc...). Most of the fatalities are great, while some are just "meh".

The main criticism comes in two parts:

1. The combos are not easy. Especially with so many characters, there seems to be different combo button arrangements for every one, and the game does not come with a manual to study the combos. The fatalities are difficult as well, making the gameplay a bit daunting when you aren't a demi-god with fighting games of this nature. I find that you should pick the character you want and stick with that character until you memorize his/her combos before trying someone new.

2. The mini transactions are frustrating. To get Goro you had to pre-order the game or buy him outright when the game was released. You need to spend $30 on a "kombat pack", which gives you 4 characters (one of whom is Jason Vorhees, but I would have shelled out the money for a "horror villains" pack, giving us Michael Myers, Freddy Krueger, Leatherface, Jason Vorhees, etc...) I hate that in today's gaming world they charge you $70 for a game then make you pay more for add ons they should have included in the game outright. Or at least make it more affordable to get the content you want instead of having to buy the whole thing. I would like Jason, but I don't care about the others.

Other than those two main things, Mortal Kombat X is a great game and lives up to the hype. I just need to find a way to keep my kids from coming down the stairs and stumbling upon Ferra/Torr ripping someone in half... you can't unsee that. I've tried.
