Scandinavian video games firm Unique Development Studios has announced that it will develop the long-rumored Futurama games for next-generation consoles, handhelds, and the PC. UDS and Fox Interactive have entered into a three-year copublishing agreement, under which Fox will publish the Futurama games in North America and UDS will release the games in all other territories. The development process of the first Futurama games is currently under way at UDS. The first games - expected on platforms such as the PlayStation 2, Xbox, and others - will be released in the first half of 2002.

"We are very pleased to be able to acquire the rights to such a strong brand as Futurama by Fox, and we believe that the resulting games will be very successful all over the world," said Thomas Lofblad, managing director of UDS. "Our new strategy to own the rights to various computer games aimed at a global mass market gives us a potential to dramatically increase revenue streams in the future."

"Futurama is a great show which lends itself very well to making fun, interesting game environments. We are pleased to be collaborating with UDS on the development of the Futurama game, and by working closely with the series creator, we hope to expand the appeal of the show to gamers around the world," said Steve Bersch, president of Fox Interactive.

GameSpot will continue to follow the games' development and will bring you further details.
