Google reveals new sales milestone for line of devices, reveals growth to 850,000 daily activations; 450,000 apps available in marketplace.

Games for the Android operating system now have a potential audience of more than 300 million users, Google has revealed.

Writing on the Google Mobile blog, senior vice president Andy Rubin revealed the new Android device worldwide sales tally and also noted that year-over-year growth is up over 250 percent, with 850,000 new Android activations each day.

Rubin also noted that there are now more than 450,000 apps available in the Android Market, up from the 150,000 available this time last year. Additionally, Rubin said more than 1 billion Android apps were downloaded last month.

By comparison, Apple had sold 316 million iOS devices as of the end of 2011, according to GameSpot sister site ZDNet.
