Fun concept plagued by flaws

User Rating: 4 | Pikmin 1 NS

Good

- the stupidity of the pikmin does give them some charm. However, this charm does not make up for how much it negatively affects gameplay overall

- the diary Olimar keeps is endearing, especially about his family. Makes me sad for him, and want him to make it out.

- the whole theme is very cute, from pikmin to enemies, to olimar, to the music. It's interesting how that contrasts the theme of the game: trying to escape from planet, pikmin dying trying to help, and the risk of not making it out.

Bad

- the pikmin AI is terrible. They often get stuck behind walls. Some lag behind too much. They run into water, despite me avoiding it. They stop and do random things when I didn't command it, which messes up my plan, and end up getting attacked by enemies

- the pikmin take unfavorable routes sometimes when carrying an item back to the base

- there should be a free roam mode, where u get unlimited pikmin, so you get to experiment with combat and traversal of the map

- some of the enemies are waaaay too strong

- farming pikmin take too long

- 30 days is too short to gather all the ship parts. Maybe on a 2nd play through this would be a manageable time, but not on the first
