I would only recommend this game to people who have no access to the original.

I loved the 1st generation of Pokémon the anime and the games were at their prime and both were just amazing so what could be better than making a remake of in my opinion the best generation of Pokémon. Well... I liked this game but I have to admit that it could have been done better, first off let's look at the presentation of the game the graphics look much more aesthetic then the original but even though to some people this looks more updated I still like what the original looked, maybe it's me looking through my nostalgia shades but the graphics on the original looked more colorful and just conveyed more emotion, maybe I'm looking too far into it but I just seem to like the old retro look of the original better. Next we got the music. Well I'm going to be honest its really bad, The originals music was awesome there was just something so good about its retro sound and then you have got this one, the soundtrack is the same as it was in the original, however for some reason this time it just sounds off, I don't know if it was the limitations of the Gameboy Advance or just a new direction for the music but for me it just doesn't sound good, it's not bad music it's just feel like they overdid some of the remix's on them. So there are some good ones but some of them just aren't that great.

Now we go to the gameplay. Well it's just like any other Pokémon game you catch, train, and battle your Pokémon to the top. You got your seven gym leaders throughout Kanto to beat and of course the Elite Four, it's just a good time as usual but there doesn't seem to be anything new with the game itself, don't get me wrong I don't want them to make a bunch of huge changes to it but I do want to be able to do something new. Well there is honestly only one thing new in this game that isn't in the original and that is a special place called the three islands. When I just beat Blaine and got my seventh badge I was asked if I wanted to go to these islands and so I was like why not if there is nothing I want to do here I can just go back to Kanto, ha ha boy was I in for a surprise you can't go back to Kanto until you complete a certain task, are you f^%$ing kidding me! Who came up with this, are you serious! I nearly quit this game because of this. Let me explain myself I like to focus on just beating a game first and then coming back to the game to explore all of it and complete it that way I have other time to play more games and make more reviews so when I got to this Island I already had twenty five hours logged in to this game already and I still had a lot to do. Do you know how much of a piss off it is to go to a side mission and not be allowed to go back if you decide to not do it in the first place? It's a joke whoever came up with this deserves to be hung.

Now that I am done ranting lets finish this up While Fire red isn't perfect it makes for an overall fun experience that could have been better, sure the Pokémon are fleshed out stat wise and graphical wise but I just feel like they should of added new things, but other than that it's worth playing. Overall I would recommend this to someone who isn't able to play Pokémon blue, red, or yellow to play this one or someone who is a huge fan of the Pokémon series as a whole but if you are looking to play this to get a better experience then the first three then in my opinion I would say you are out of luck.
