Keep in mind that I played the hell out of this game when I was around 8 years old. It wasn't until camp, nearly six years later, that I ever found out how to beat this cripplingly difficult game. I mean, this is one ridiculous mother to figure out. Forget online walkthoughs back in the 80's. When you hit a wall, you made love to that wall and for hours on end. Come to think of it, it was my "mommy" that figured out how to blow a hole in that wall -and good for her. But that was as far as she got. It was the first key to a riddle where having the right item, at the right time, in the right place is everything. When I hear the word "ankh" or "tsetse flies," I immediately think of this game. Ahead of its time, Raider of The Lost Ark is a far cry from lets say, Pac-Man. It featured item collecting, buying, and dropping while, equipping the correct item to advance and solve the game. I believe, part of the success behind the most popular games today. Unfortunately, its merits didn't come without a few flaws. First off, it's nearly impossible to figure out . In '82 I was just shooting at aliens and running from ghosts. The colors in the graphics go down as, "My worst in game history." Awful impressions that have forever been burned deep within my soul. Finally, after wasting countless hours of my childhood, no ending could ever do justice to the amount of years I've spent trying to figure out this mother of all hard mothers. Now, why didn't I head to the mesa with the blinking light to jump off sooner!? Because it's a tsetse sandwich.
