If anything it's just a Flatout game in an urban environment. Besides the DLC, there are no cars from the Ridge Racer series, only music tracks from previous games. It has a learning curve to it and new players may find themselves frustrated by not immediately coming in first place in the first few races. Learning how to properly utilize the boost power and the shortcuts are essential to winning and once you understand those techniques it becomes clear how to win but it's still a challenging task to take on. Unlocking new cars and track pieces for the city builder (not to mention achievements) are just about the only rewards this game has to offer. Graphics are impressive and the city environments vary from district-to-district, but they start to feel repetitive. Still, regardless of the shortcomings, it's a fun and solid game that a Ridge Racer, Flatout, or any racing enthusiast will enjoy.
