Ridge Racer Unbounded is defiantly a change for franchise, but that's not a bad thing (unlike it was in Resident Evil 5), as the newer mechanics of Unbounded make the franchise a lot more fun, even if it's not completely accessible for casual gamers.
The core racing is still about drifting, although the drifting mechanics feel better and reward still and lots of practice, at first you will feel like smooth corners are nearly impossible, but keep playing and you will be able to drift with relative ease, as seen on the front cover and stated on the back cover, the main focus of Ridge Racer Unbounded is destruction, your boost bar fills up when you drift, catch air, smash through obstacles or frag other opponents, fragging is fun and satisfying as you boost through opponents cars. Tree's, lampposts, petrol pumps, chest high walls, stairs to El-Train stations, post boxes, poles and fences can be mowed down with ease, when your boost bar is full, you can crash through certain buildings and create shortcuts, this is extremely fun as you could be coming last place and then boost through a train station or factory and end up in first place. The racing is backed up with a great sense of speed, a variety of cars each with there own advantages and disadvantages and great visuals.
As just mentioned, Ridge Racer Unbounded is a great looking game with a great sense of speed, car models are smooth and detailed and particle effects when crashing through obstacles are great looking.
The soundtrack is a mix of Dubstep and rave, this won't please everyone, but it's nothing that an Ipod dock can't fix.
If you are a hardcore racing fan that is after something fun and fast paced, Ridge Racer Unbounded won't dissapoint. Ridge Racer Unbounded gets a superb 9/10.
