A biker's paradise.

Road Rash to me is not just simply "one of the first games I played", it is THE First PC game I ever played. As such, it's but obviously natural for me to have some kind of emotional attachment to it. And now I realize that it's much more than just that. Playing it gives you an instant feel of playing an old-school classic which has the power to keep you hooked for endless hours at a stretch (thank God I didn't play it online or else I would messed up my academics for sure).

Story: There's not much of a story here. As a matter of fact there is no story. All you do is compete in a championship / tournament with around 7-8 other bikers.

Gameplay: The gameplay is as good as it gets. There are five locations to choose for a race. You start of in a really medium pace bike with a relatively modest AI but as you get upgraded bikes, the AI beefs up. It doesn't get to a point where it feels like the AI is cheating on you or such. That justifies the "Road" aspect of the title. As for the "Rash" it comes from the fact that you can actually hit other bikers on the run with your chain when they near you. This is the most entertaining and fun part of the game. You also have the ability to snatch chains from other bikers nearby provided you don't have one but beware; they could do the same to you.

Also you have to be really careful because you might ram into one of the cars driving towards you on the road causing you to jump in the air and land on the road in which case you will usually end up landing somewhere far away from your bike. You then automatically run towards your bike and pick it up after which the race continues. This might cause a huge lag resulting in you falling far behind as compared to the others. This is one aspect of the game that can annoy a bit (in the higher levels, one crash and its almost impossible to catch up) but it also provides the game with a thrilling atmosphere resulting in edge of the seat misses. Also this can also happen to the AI (and it does) which makes it a bit fair. You'' also have cops rushing to you with chains if you cross the speed limit

Graphics: The city, the bikes, the bikers with helmets on look great. Of course there are blocky pedestrians but this can be forgiven considering it came at a time when 3D graphics was just starting to arrive.

Sound: The bike sounds are great. You'll also hear some sounds when the bikers beat each other or when they fall. Apart from these there's the background score which keeps looping throughout the race but nothing much.

This is one of those games where more than graphics, sounds and other details all that matters is the gameplay. And gameplay it is which makes it enjoyable. It is one of those games that you can easily played when you're stressed out and it'll certainly help you beat the stress and relax you out a bit.In case it is possible play it. In case you haven't you're definitely missing something.
