While a bit dated, Serious Sam looks great, the environment is destructible and blood splatters the walls and floors. I can imagine that this game was the peak of graphic perfection back in 2001.
Gameplay:

The game is great and fast-paced. The various guns and cannon you pick up on your way through the destruction of Egypt are powerful and can blow enemies apart, especially the cannon. The final boss battle is damn badass, with a three-hundred foot ancient deity shooting fire balls and lasers at you, or even crushing you to a bloody pulp if you get to close. One tip, use the cannon to kill it. The cannon is nice. The cannon is your best friend.

Serious Sam The First Encounter is seriously a cannon blast of fun that anyone that was a fan of old(er) shooters should get. The cannon is a beast.
