Is strategy doing the same thing over and over?

I'll mainly be discussing the campaign side of this game because the multiplayer is an even more pathetic waste of time.
The campaigns start off charmingly enough. Each mission actually has a bit of variance, but boils down to you massing overpowered units and wiping the map with them. There are so many units to choose from, and yet only 2-4 are usable for each race.
To win as protoss you must spam dragoons and reavers. To win as terran you must spam siege tanks and marines. To win as zerg you must spam mutalisks and guardians (or hydralisks if you enjoy having 20+ wiped from a single aoe attack. It all boils down not to which unit can get the job done, but which can get the job done without giving you an extreme headaches caused from cheapness. Its really that simple. Using any other units results in a waste of time for 2 reasons.
1. You must build up to contend with the enemies already enormous armies. This completely ruins any kind of strategy you may think of because you may not impliment it in time for low tier units to be useful.
2. Turrets/detectors are everywhere. Everywhere. Destroy the turret/p-cannon? Oh jeez, they have 300 observers/overlords/sat scans. This makes every interesting unit such as the dark templar or lurker absolutely useless on the offensive.

Campaign is nothing like multiplayer because in multiplayer your opponent can't start out with a counter to every unit. So some units are actually useful there.....oh wait, not they aren't. Every single online match pans out the same way. Terrans- siege tanks and either marines or vultures. Protoss- dragoons and guess what? Reavers. Zerg- mutalisks and early lurkers. That's it. How is this strategy? Its not.
It is true that each race can contend with the others (well the zerg can get lucky vs protoss anyways) but since you have to use the same units or be crushed, they are completely unbalanced.
Normally I wouldn't care to rant about an old game like this, but I recently reinstalled to refresh my starcraft memory for SC2, and its nothing like I remembered...probably because I used cheats when I was younger to get through all the BS in campaign.
The game just isn't fun.
