I used to love this game to bits, I still do, but now it's just a passing fancy...

With the legend that is StarCraft comes it's expansion pack: Brood War. Every single thing about it screams "EPIC!", but it can only last for so long.

The game is cake, the graphics are beautiful, (although it isn't 3D, you learn to love it.), the sounds are fair, the voices are absolute wins and the storyline is fantastic. The occasional sense of humor that Blizzard likes to put in its games shows here, and will bring a bit of cheer even in the deepest, most hostile recesses of the Koprulu Sector.

The cinematics and the soundtrack did sorta disappoint me a bit, which is why I never really payed much attention to these, but the cinematics do capture the story very well, so they pulled my attention to them at least a little bit.

The story of the game kept me very interested in the campaign, and this is the first one that really intrigued me because for the first time, the humans get OWNED in a Sci-Fi game. (Sorry if it made a bit of a spoiler, but I doubt that considering this is quite an old game.)

The skirmish single player really keeps you moving, there's no time for relaxing, especially in the early parts of the game. The really disappointing part with the AI is its utilization of the same strategy over and over, eventually leading the player to find a good way to rush and rush and rush, which makes it all too fast, and ruins the experience. BUT, with that said, if you let it go its way, the single player games are very challenging, and with each race's unique capabilities and weapons, the gameplay will stick for quite a while.

It's all very exciting when you reach the climax of a game, that being head to head combat with loads of units, and the eventual little trick you pull on the enemy to beat him, but it only lasts so long.

Before a while, you'll be wanting more, and even with so much StarCraft already has to offer, and it'll all be pretty shorthanded...

So sadly, the good memories I had when I last played this game years ago just don't want to come back anymore. It'll definitely get you going, the question is: How far?
