The most stunning Mario platformer

User Rating: 9 | Super Mario Galaxy WII

Super Mario Galaxy completely thwarts every single previous Mario platformer combined in every way imaginable, from its totally gorgeous graphics to its dynamic gameplay that will have you mesmerized from start to finish.

This game feels like a top notch Mario platformer combined with a Mario Party game combined with a HD movie. Super Mario Galaxy isn't just a game, it's a full blown experience.

You will find yourself captured in a substantial amount of worlds, known as galaxies, with so much variety and challenges you will wonder what the game developers could think of next. From the beautiful hub world of the observatory to lava levels, haunted houses, beach levels, cave levels, ice levels, beehive levels, toy factories - and I'm just getting started. This game feels almost endless, in longevity and quality.

This game's controls, in my opinion, has the best use of the Wii remote. Collecting star bits by pointing at them on the screen is both creative and interactive, and is possibly the most satisfying feel of the game. Shaking the Wii remote to blast from planet to planet is fun and just a remarkable display of graphics and animation.

One of the game's strongest points, in my opinion, are the variety of bosses and the different types of battles. There are a large number of boss battles in this game, each with a different way to fight them using different controls. The pure creativity in designing all of these boss battles makes this game one of the best things Nintendo has ever done.

The only thing keeping this game from a perfect 10/10 score is the lack of emotional plot that keeps the player hooked on what happens next - it follows a generic Mario storyline, with Bowser kidnapping the Princess for the millionth time. Admittedly, however, Mario platformers do not usually attempt to gain the player's attention to story.

While this game's predecessors like 64 and Sunshine had missions that felt rather monotonous and dragged to the point of feeling like a chore - specifically Sunshine - Super Mario Galaxy improves in every single way from these games on gameplay, graphics, and controls. Absolutely, without a doubt, Super Mario Galaxy is one of the greatest games ever made.
