The best multiplayer game of all time!

User Rating: 10 | Super Smash Bros. Brawl WII
What makes a game great? There seem to be many answers to this question based upon the personal preferences of each individual player. Some people may say that an epic story is necessary for a game to be great; whereas some may focus on other aspects such as how the game controls or how it looks. Regardless of how we as gamers choose to let the aforementioned specs attribute to how we initially think of games, I believe that how much we truly enjoy a game is what defines it. In other words, gameplay is what attracts us to video games. For the average game, one play-through is more than enough to enjoy all that the game has to offer, but it is easy to put back on the shelf once you've finished. A great game, on the other hand, will keep you coming back for more. Playing it one time just simply isn't enough, and it is very easy to become so enthralled that minutes become hours, and hours become days at a time. Super Smash Bros. Brawl falls into the latter category...

Super Smash Bros. Brawl is a game that brings in many characters from the Nintendo universe to duke it out. For this entry into the series, there are more characters than ever before, which is what helps to set this game above the previous two (Super Smash Bros. and Super Smash Bros. Melee). Mario, Link, Kirby, Donkey Kong, Samus, Fox, Ness, Yoshi, Pikachu, Jigglypuff, Luigi, and Captain Falcon return as series regulars, but you can expect a major overhaul when it comes to new fighters. Among some of the new faces are Pit from the Kid Icarus series, Meta Knight from the Kirby series, and Ike from the Fire Emblem series.

Never before has there been a game where so many different and unique characters come together like this. The beauty of the Super Smash Bros. series is that each character resonates differently in the hearts and minds of gamers based on how much they enjoy games that said characters are in; this allows new gamers that are new to the series, as well as veterans to put this game in and already have some idea as to who they want to be, and it also makes it easier for players to become more emotionally invested in different characters. For instance, since I was a kid Samus has been my favorite Nintendo character; therefore, I chose to play as her from the very beginning, which caused her to become my favorite playable character. So, with more characters, comes more of these chances, as well as potentially more players to the series.

Now that we've discussed characters, I'd like to discuss the gameplay. It is very intricate, so I'd like to start off by saying that I love playing this game. The fact that I am writing this review more than five years after its release does nothing more than speak to how entertaining this game truly is. It keeps the formula that made the previous two entries great, such as cool items and great stages, but it takes it to a whole new level. For instance, the smash ball is a new item that unleashes a Final Smash that is unique to each character, and stages like Pictochat are very interactive. Also, I must add that Final Destination has to be one of the greatest stages in the history of fighting games.

In conclusion, Super Smash Bros. Brawl is one of the greatest games of all time because it just is. The character selection is better than any other fighting game out there, and the multiplayer aspect of this game is far superior than any other game out there. Super Smash Bros. Brawl is the best multiplayer game of all time, and I feel very confident in saying that. If you are a Nintendo fan, or just enjoy playing fun games in general, Super Smash Bros. Brawl is a must-have game.
