The Best in the Series

User Rating: 10 | Super Smash Bros. for Wii U WIIU
Super Smash Bros for the Wii U is by far the greatest addition to the franchise and is far superior to its counterpart on the Nintendo 3DS. While there are some slip ups in the game here and there, the incredible graphics, outstanding character roster, awesome DLC, terrific stages, and endless hours of fun to be had in the many game modes make up for these mistakes. First, let me talk about the greatness of the Smash Mode in this game. All of the characters are well balanced, the stages, like I said, are awesome and quite beautiful to look at, and the added color alternatives to each character allows players to be themselves. The Eight Player smash is also fantastic and a great, albeit confusing at times, addition to the already phenomenal franchise. Classic mode is better than ever. I will say, however, that the payoff for finally defeating Master Core is somewhat underwhelming. Even then it's still extremely fun to battle against him. The stage builder has been completely revamped and now completely utilizes the Gamepad for creation of stages, by drawing. It is so much better than the frustrating Stage Builder that was included in Super Smash Bros. Brawl. The music of the game is also beautiful, just like all of its predecessors in the series. There are countless other things to love about this game, but the game is also not free of any flaws. To begin with the most notably negative thing about this entry in the series is that there is no Story Mode. While overly bloated and long, the Brawl Story Mode was extremely fun and a great mode to add into the franchise, but the lack of any story mode in this game and it's counterpart is very disappointing. Another thing that is worth noting as a downside to this game is Smash Tour. The Mode that replaced Story Mode on the Wii U version is extremely confusing and hard to comprehend. It shoves so many rules and features down your throat that you often get things mixed up. And the payoff isn't even worth it. Smash Tour proves to be extremely boring and definitely the worst mode in the entire game. It is one of the few things the Wii U version screwed up when compared to the 3DS version. The 3DS version includes Smash Run, which is so much more fun in every way imaginable. It keeps you captivated with its endless enemies which are all unique to one another, while in Smash Tour, those enemies are condemned to being placed in a bland board game just to get knocked off the board by a player's Mii and reward them with coins and trophies (they don't even get to keep the trophies, instead they're used as power ups...what?!) While this isn't necessarily a bad thing, it's just something that feels off. You gain coins so easily in this game that you can go to the trophy shop or Crazy Orders (which is very fun) and spend a ton of coins and still have plenty left over. And even on the rare occasion that you run out of coins (which you would have had to have been trying to achieve that feat), you can quickly rack them up again by simply winning a Smash round, because you'll be rewarded at least 100 coins per round! To wrap this all up nicely, Smash Bros for the Wii U is an exceptional game with minor downsides, including the terrible Smash Tour and lack of any Story Mode. You can play this game for days and not get bored because of the neverendjng content included in it.
