That's what you get when you cross XCOM with Mass Effect: An uninspired hybrid blasphemy.

First off I want to say that this game should never have been released! Not in its actual form anyway... It's a Mass Effect/XCOM rip-off that fails to capture a single positive aspect of those games. Sure the graphics look good and the 60's vibe is well depicted but this game is a shooter! Who in its right mind would have the audacity to turn XCOM into an average shooter!? 2K Marin I guess, what a shame, they went back on their first attempt at this game by adding squad management and everything from Mass Effect like scattered notes that you find throughout the game and that aren't even fun to read. Heck, even the conversation wheel is a complete Mass Effect rip-off except that the conversation option on the left terminates the discussion instead of pushing it forward.

Also you have to note that the game utilizes a checkpoint save system and that you can't save anywhere as you would like and the game is very linear. There's only one way forward and to make it worse it glows yellow to show you the way, be it a door knob or a terminal... not sure where to go next? Follow the yellow indicator, no problem! That, in my opinion is too much hand-holding when you crave something more open-world.

I really tried to get into this game since I love XCOM but the more I try, the more I feel disconnected from the game and its mechanics. That's sad since I love the 60's atmosphere this game has and wanted to play through it and experience the story but everytime I get to the combat parts I just feel disappointed, it's not even fun and feels totally uninspired.

So much potential, wasted!
