Lost Vikings is the one of the greatest puzzle platformers ever made.

User Rating: 8.5 | The Lost Vikings SNES
Lost Vikings was one of the great titles from the SNES which many widely agree as being the greatest system to date. Although I believe this is almost purely nostalgia that is affecting this choice.
Lost Vikings happens to be one of the titles on the SNES that I keep coming back to, because it is just so much fun. It has the great distinction of having great puzzles, fun platforming and a system which is unique to the game itself.
In Lost Vikings you control 3 different characters: Olaf, Baleog, and Erik. These 3 characters are extremely balanced, each one of them is completely necessary to your completion of a given level. The puzzles range from easy to frustratingly difficult giving a wide variety of levels and new elements to tackle with each new world.
Now there is the problem of it not having much of a plot except: "go through these puzzles because eventually you'll get back home somehow". There's this whole thing about Tomator being a badass but that's besides the point. Lost Vikings makes up for being void of a decent plot because a) it makes up for it with extremely fun gameplay and b) because the dialogue is actually funny and clever, something which new games seem to think is easily replaced with flat, predictable badass characters.
If I can think of one complaint for Lost Vikings is that some of the puzzles require a little more than patience. Some are flat-out impossible unless you have an emulator to mash quicksave and quickload with, and then you get the feeling like you're cheating the game (because you are). The problem is that there is no checkpoint or savepoint in a given level, and yes there is no penalty for restarting the level, but it gets pretty f*cking frustrating when you have to restart a level because Erik failed a jumping puzzle right at the end.
Lost Vikings is a great game, however, for the casual gamer. Someone who picks it up to do 1 or 2 levels in between f*cking his incredibly hot girlfriend, and going to do a wicked secret government mission. Alternatively it can be used as a cure for your insane anxiety after playing a few hours of Call of Cthulu.
