The two DC superhero shows currently airing on The CW--Arrow and The Flash--have proved very popular with viewers, and now a third DC series is about to join them. Legends of Tomorrow premieres in January, and the first trailer has been released. Check it out below:

Legends of Tomorrow will occupy the same universe as Arrow and The Flash, and will feature a variety of heroes and villains from those shows. It focuses upon a team put together by wise-cracking time traveller Rip Hunter to stop the immortal supervillain Vandal Savage from taking over the world. The group is made of Captain Cold, Heatwave, and Firestorm from The Flash, Atom and White Canary from Arrow, and the newly-introduced Hawkman and Hawkgirl.

In an interview with Comicbook.com, showrunner Phil Klemmer discussed the issues that come with developing a show that features so many distinctive characters. "I think the fun is in not managing them," he said. "In what I've written so far, part of the joy is in the tug of war that's going on. Rip Hunter assembles this team, but he assembles a team of good guys, bad guys, mixed-up people, and it is like herding cats.

"It's not like the normal sort of Justice League, who are all shoulder to shoulder. It really is sort of amorphous, sliding alliances, people who have their own agendas, and to me, that's the real fun of the show in that it's always going to be sort of sifting sands."

Legends of Tomorrow will premiere on The CW on January 21, 2016, and stars Brandon Routh, Wentworth Miller, Caity Lotz, Arthur Darvill, and Casper Crump. The crossover episodes of The Flash and Arrow that will be broadcast on December 1 and 2 next month will work as a prelude to the new series.
