Actor Will Smith will produce a new family friendly TV show along the lines of The Fresh Prince of Bel-Air, according to multiple sources speaking to TV Line and Entertainment Weekly.

Smith, who was the star of the beloved program that still airs reruns today, is reportedly in the "very early stages" of developing the show with his production company, Overbrook Entertainment.

Like the original, the current idea is for it to be a comedy that "puts a new spin on the fish-out-of-water tale while maintaining the spirit of Fresh Prince," TV Line reported.

As we all know, the original Fresh Prince saw Smith's character move from West Philadelphia to ritzy Bel-Air to live with his aunt and uncle in a mansion. A lot of hilarity ensued.

Fresh Prince originally aired on NBC, but it's unclear how the rumored reboot will be distributed. NBC Entertainment chairman Robert Greenblatt told TV Line this week that the network is not currently involved with the program, but said he would be "happy to talk to [Will Smith] about it."

Since the project is apparently in such early stages of development, it's also not surprising that no casting details, plot information, or a targeted premiere date have been revealed.

Another show recently rebooted with the same premise but (mostly) new characters was Boy Meets World, which returned as Girl Meets World. Other '90s shows that are coming back include Full House, Coach, The X-Files, and Twin Peaks.
