Resident Evil 1 Remake is in production and will release in 2026, leaker says

Capcom is once again remaking Resident Evil 1.

That's according to noted horror genre leaker Dusk Golem and survival horror YouTuber Biohazard Declassified, both of whom have stepped up this weekend with rumours that Capcom is looking to breathe new life into the game that started it all, the very first Resident Evil.

Biohazard Declassified says they received an anonymous email that claims the game – with the working title, Biohazard: Resident Evil 1 – will be slower paced than RE2 Remake, feature a "different this person camera", and explore RE1's lore "further".

It's also alleged that each Zombie will have their own unique model due to the small number of enemies within the game, "bullet sponge" enemies, and see the return of Crimson Heads.

Furthermore, there will be "no more pre-rendered backgrounds"; "each room will load up background assets and the rest of the assets will load when doors are opened. This is to improve visuals and lighting".

Golem took to social media on Sunday to substantiate the rumour.

"I can confirm that a new remake of Resident Evil 1 is in production and is scheduled to be released during the franchise's 30th anniversary in 2026," Golem said on X/Twitter.

Very cool. I’m definitely down for this. Seems like a nice way to celebrate the 30th anniversary. Still remember the days as a young lad going to my local game store and picking up a copy of the game in the big black case it came in for the PlayStation. Good times.

Yup, just remake 1, 0, CV and 5. Those are the only ones I haven't played yet.

Its the only other RE game that i'd be interested in playing a remake for because i never beat the original. Thing is, its way too short, so unless they add three times as much content, i don't see myself getting it for $70.

Going to be honest, i really enjoy the RE remakes.

For gamecube, literally nobody even mentions this console on System Wars except for me.

It's arguably the remake, and best game/s ever made.

Anyway, it's funny how a remake of a remake has me more excited than Valve's next game, which literally could be water rolling off a duck.

Can't wait to use the shield key on the shield door with modern perspective. "Modern" is a synonym for "good" and "better". It's what Capcom always envisioned but the technology wasn't there. Will be awesomesauce for people who never played RE1 before, as they don't have to learn an outdated control system. Learning things that are different from what you are used to is bs, it's unnecessary busywork. People already have to learn things at their job at the Amazon warehouse, they just want to relax after work with a chill game and some pizza rolls.

Basically Re-Remake lol.

If the Dino Crisis remake still took place entirely in a facility and still had the same weak story, then no thanks. When I say reboot, I mean Regina's first mission again and the dinosaurs pulled through the time portal for the first time again, but original. Maybe have her go back 65 million years in the final chapter. But, yeah, I have no confidence in Capcom actually making a good game of it. Would be extremely linear and tick off all the usual boxes. The high production cost of video games ruined everything, bringing us to this point of nothing but remakes/remasters.

Because the original RE will be entering its 30th anniversary in 2026 since RE started back in 1996. This was so obvious this was going to happen. No way Capcom is gonna skip its 30th anniversary. Despite it already had a remake, RE1 needs that RE Engine after all.

But I do hope Code Veronica is next after RE1 Remake.

I've never played RE1 or the GC remake (for shame) or any HD release based on that remake either. Constantly see it for 5 bucks on Steam, should I feel like it. Yet another remake from Capcom for 70 bucks is an offer I can quite easily refuse.

I'm always done for some remakes to games I have never played, or childhood favorites that get a massive overhaul. I've already played and beaten the RE1 Remake on the PS4, so I have no interest in this game, should the rumor be true. I, like seemingly most others, would rather they REmake Code Veronica. Never played it, and probably never will unless they give us a remake.

Fine by me. Code Veronica needs the remake more at this point tho
