LOS ANGELES--In among the trailers for Final Fantasy games, Queen-soundtracked montages, and PSP Go revelations at yesterday's Sony E3 Press Conference, SCEA CEO Jack Tretton announced a new PS3-exclusive from Rockstar North, the studio behind the Grand Theft Auto franchise.

Few details were forthcoming at the time, save the news of its platform exclusivity. The game's existence was first revealed in July 2007, when Sony announced that Rockstar was developing an all-new IP solely for its console.

"We have always enjoyed making action games, and with Agent we are making what we believe will be the ultimate action game," said Sam Houser, Rockstar's founder. "Agent is a game we have wanted to make for a long time. The team in Edinburgh is doing an amazing job combining intense action, atmosphere, and story in a great period setting to create something that feels quite unique. We cannot wait for people to experience this game."

The game will take players "on a paranoid journey into the world of counterintelligence, espionage, and political assassinations during the height of the Cold War at the end of the 1970s," according to Rockstar.
