Shaun White's gravity-defying snowboarding exploits have already earned him a sports game from Ubisoft (as well as a couple of Olympic gold medals). As it turns out, the red-coiffed dynamo is equally prone to feats of airborne wonder on smoldering pavement as he is on fresh powder. Today, Ubisoft announced that it will complement its Shaun White Snowboarding line of games with Shaun White Skateboarding.

In development at Ubisoft's sprawling Montreal campus, Shaun White Skateboarding is slated to arrive for unspecified platforms this holiday season. Ubisoft offered very little information on what gamers can expect from the new title, saying only that it would "provide an innovative twist and fresh take on the skateboarding and action-sports genre."

Ubisoft's latest X Games venture will face stiff competition in the increasingly crowded skateboarding genre. In May, EA will release the Black Box-developed Skate 3 for the Xbox 360 and PlayStation 3. Despite a poor critical reception and questionable commercial success, Activision will also be returning later this year with a new installment in its peripheral-based Tony Hawk Ride series.

The publisher has yet to announce whether it will release a new installment in its Shaun White Snowboarding franchise this year. The series got off to an uneven start in 2008, when critics responded favorably to Shaun White Snowboarding on the Wii but panned the Xbox 360 and PS3 editions. In 2009, Ubisoft returned to the slopes with Shaun White Snowboarding: World Stage as a Wii exclusive, a game that received generally positive reviews.
