Remedy working on new 'AAA' Xbox 360 project
Job listing reveals that Finnish studio is already hiring for its next big game for Microsoft's console--is it Alan Wake 2?
Though it was given solid reviews by critics, Alan Wake wasn't the runaway hit that publisher Microsoft had hoped, selling just over 250,000 units in the US, according to the NPD Group. Nevertheless, the game's developer appears to be soldiering on with its next project, according to a job listing on industry trade site Gamasutra.
According to the listing, the Espoo, Finland-based studio is currently looking for a producer on a "AAA console project" that is later identified as being for the Xbox 360. No further details were given about the game other than that it would be built using Hansoft project-management middleware and scrum development processes and that all applicants must have at least five years of experience to even be considered for the position.
One title the game most definitely isn't is Max Payne 3. Though Remedy developed the first two installments in the series--2000's Max Payne and 2003's Max Payne 2--the third installment in the series, next year's Max Payne 3, is currently in the works at Rockstar Vancouver for a 2011 release. Given that the position is for an Xbox 360 title, a leading contender is a sequel to Alan Wake, which was exclusive to Microsoft's console. Remedy had not responded to requests for comment about the project as of press time.
Alan Wake tells the story of a best-selling author who retreats with his wife to a small secluded town in hopes of recovering from a severe creative block. His self-imposed rehabilitation is cut short when his wife disappears and the town of Bright Falls becomes haunted by specters out of his latest novel. The game received two downloadable expansions, the last of which, The Writer, was released on October 12.
