Uncharted 3: World of Deceit outed, debunked - Retail Radar
Amazon France gives name to Among Thieves follow-up--before artist admits he made the title up; Naughty Dog calls title "totally fake."
During the 2010 Electronic Entertainment Expo, Amazon's French arm listed Uncharted 3 for release during the fall of 2011. Now, the same retailer has listed a full title and tentative box art for the game.
A listing (which has since been pulled) for Uncharted 3: World of Deceit popped up on the retailer’s website this weekend. To date, neither publisher Sony nor developer Naughty Dog has officially announced that there will be a third Uncharted title.
The news comes on the heels of supposed World of Deceit concept art posted by Tyler West Studio concept designer Albert Ng. The Los Angeles studio handles concept art work for a number of big-name clients, including Uncharted series publisher Sony. Ng posted several concept art shots to his blog. Among them was a World of Deceit logo, the same logo that appeared in Amazon France’s listing. However, according to Ng's blog, the concept art was compiled for "architecture class."
[UPDATE] As of press time, Sony had not responded to GameSpot's request for comment or clarification on the matter. However, Naughty Dog head of PR Arne Meyer took to the NeoGAF forums to call the title and concept art "totally fake," a sentiment that Ng backed up in a post on his blog.
"I hope to clarify some recent misunderstandings that this work here was and is presumed to be concept work done for the new upcoming Uncharted 3 property for Naughty Dog and Sony," said Ng. "As stated on the bottom of the post several months ago, this was a project done for an architecture class and has no affiliation with Naughty Dog and their Uncharted series. I apologize for the misunderstanding. "
While not official, a third Uncharted game seems a likely fit for Sony. Uncharted 2: Among Thieves was critically hailed, selling nearly 3 million copies in a matter of months and dominating the Interactive Achievement Awards and Game Developers Choice Awards. In addition to that, Sony also has an Uncharted feature film in the works, with David O. Russell in the director's chair.
