THQ dates Homefront
Futuristic dystopian first-person shooter confirmed for March 8 North American release; hitting Australia on March 10, Europe March 11.
THQ has been undergoing some significant internal transformations of late. One of the aims of these changes was to ensure more timely and reliable releases to calm investor's nerves, and the company seems to be having a fair amount of success in that regard. Speaking over a year ago, THQ assured that Homefront, its upcoming near-future first-person shooter, would be out by the end of its 2011 fiscal year as one of its marquee releases. Today, the publisher confirmed the game would be arriving at the start of March, just weeks before the start of fiscal 2012.
Homefront will hit stores in North America on March 8, according to a tweet from the game's official account, and the US release will be swiftly followed by the game arriving in Australian shops on March 10 before finally arriving in Europe on March 11. The game is a story-driven shooter that is set after North Korea overruns the continental United States. The single-player component pits the player as a member of the American resistance fighting the Korean People's Army in an attempt to regain control of the ruined nation, while the multiplayer is set earlier, letting players engage in military scenarios from the invasion itself.
Homefront is being developed by Kaos Studios, whose only previous full title was Frontlines: Fuel of War. The studio was formed in 2006 from the remnants of Trauma Studios, which was best known for Battlefield 1942 mod Desert Combat and for helping DICE in the development of Battlefield 2 before being liquidated.
