Though Sony's ongoing ad blitz is heavily touting the new $299 120GB PlayStation 3 Slim, not everyone is crazy about the console's new 2001: A Space Odyssey monolith-like form factor and matte finish.

Well, for now, those preferring the glossy-finish PS3 have an option in the form of Amazon's $50 reduction of the $399.99 160GB Uncharted bundle. So for just $50 more than the Slim, gamers will get a PS3 with 40GB more of memory, Naughty Dog's critically lauded action adventure, and a voucher to download the PSN game PAIN.

No Caption Provided [UPDATE] Since this article was first published, Amazon raised the Uncharted bundle price to $359.99 and then lowered it back down to $349.99.

The $349.99 160GB PS3 deal will apparently last as long as supplies of the discontinued bundle are in Amazon's warehouses. However, once that ends, gamers can still get a 120GB PS3 Slim for $199, provided they have decent enough credit to get a Sony Card Visa. Approved applicants will get $100 credited to their account after their "first qualifying purchase of $299" and over--including the PlayStation 3.

Though the PS3 will initially cost $299, a $100 credit will be applied to the cardholder's account eight to 12 weeks later, much like getting a rebate check. Cardholders can then simply spend the $100 credit on the account as they wish on any items, game-related or not, anywhere a Visa Card is accepted. Or, more simply put:

$299 initial price - $100 credit (applied to account later) = $199 final pre-tax price.

Since there is no annual fee, the Sony Card can then be canceled, or kept to earn credit toward other Sony products. The on-again, off-again Sony Card deal has offered similar savings to prospective PlayStation buyers as far back as 2001, when the PlayStation 2 was $299.
