Aussie game charts: January 12-18

Wii Play continues to hold strong down under; EA's Lord of the Rings game debuts strong.

Wii Fit may have been the number-one-selling game of 2008, but so far 2009 belongs to the Wii Play and Wii Remote bundle. For the third week in a row, Wii Play has claimed the overall Australia game chart, according to data trackers GfK Australia.

As usual, the two other partners in crime of the Nintendo trio (Wii Fit and Mario Kart Wii) have taken out the second and third spots, respectively, for the week of January 12-18. EA's The Lord of the Rings: Conquest managed to snag two places in the overall top 10 last week, with the Xbox 360 version debuting in fourth and the PlayStation 3 version in seventh. Dr Kawashima's Brain Training: How Old Is Your Brain? moved up one from the previous week, landing right in the middle at number five. The sixth place goes to Mario & Sonic at the Olympic Games on the Wii, while the Nintendo DS version can be found further down the list in ninth place. Dr Kawashima's second title to make it into the chart--More Brain Training From Dr Kawashima: How Old Is Your Brain?--snagged eighth position. The final game to report in for last week's chart was Resistance 2 for the PS3.
