Baldur's Gate 3 Is Accounting For An Absurd Share Of Total Steam Playtime

A whole lot of people are playing Baldur's Gate 3.

Steam statistics show that more than a quarter of playtime was spent on Baldur's Gate 3 this past weekend, overtaking CS: GO. According to Circana's Player Engagement Tracker, via analyst Mat Piscatella on Twitter, users spending time with Baldur's Gate 3 on August 6 accounted for 27.5% of total playtime on the platform in the US, "leading all other titles by far" including CS: GO, which sat at 5% on Sunday.

Another chart shows that the daily percentage of time for the game took off on launch day--August 3--and has remained at the previously mentioned steady playtime for almost a week. Piscatella explains in the Twitter thread that the engagement tracker is for the US only, and the results are looking only at the percentage of time played "which would include idling" in the game.

Now Playing: Baldur's Gate 3 Everything to Know

Baldur's Gate 3 exceeded 400,000 concurrent players just hours after launch, increasing to 500,000 a day later, before growing beyond 800,000 concurrent players. This made the game one of the biggest PC launches of 2023 and it became the top-selling game on Steam right now. The RPG is also currently the third-most-played game on Steam, with CS: GO and Dota 2 taking the first and second spots.

Larian Studios released another hotfix to address a save file corruption issue that was seeing some players lose their progress, due to personal databases being too small. The size has been increased to "infinite" to avoid the issue reoccurring.

Baldur's Gate 3 is a massive RPG six years in the making with over 17,000 ending variations, so we've put together a handy guides hub to help you out on your journey complete with a beginners guide, and more.

Baldur's Gate 3 is available now on PC and will come to PS5 on September 6. An Xbox Series X|S version is also in the works, but issues with Xbox Series S compatibility have thus far delayed its launch.
